Why is a catch can kit so important on the Fiesta ST EcoBoost? The answer is not as simple as you might think but the ramifications of not removing the oil mist in the inlet with a catch can kit can be massive.

As simply put as possible the direct injection 1.6 EcoBoost found in the Fiesta ST MK7 is an amazing engine but the direct injection fires fuel directly into the cylinders at high pressure. This is fantastic for efficiency and tuning potential but leaves the inlet valves unwashed with fuel where a conventional port injection fuel system fires into the head and fuel washes over the valves into the cylinder. The valves are ultimately washed with the fuel and remain clean with no carbon build up.

The negative effect of direct injection engines is of course carbon build up around the valves which causes them not to seat correctly and mostly results in a loss of power.

A catch can kit will stop this happening on your Fiesta ST by catching the oil mist that is usually deposited back into the intake side of the engine thus covering your turbo, intercooler, and associated piping with oil before making its way into the engine and depositing around the inlet valves.

When the engine is running and gets hot the oil is burnt and forms a carbon build up it's surprising how quickly this can actually become an issue.
